PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians throughout the country will be allowed to travel inter-district and inter-state beginning Monday.
Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said there will no longer be roadblocks and travellers will no longer require a police permit, except for certain areas under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).
Speaking at a press conference today, he said police had been instructed to focus on monitoring SOP compliance from now on.
Ismail also announced that the three-per-vehicle rule will be lifted.
“We will no longer limit the number (of passengers) per vehicle. The limit will be based on seating capacities,” he said.
“Normally, for family cars, there are two (seats) in front and three at the back. So the limit (of passengers) for that car will be five.”
Commenting on the tourism sector, he said the National Security Council (MKN) would discuss with the tourism ministry and provide a “positive list” of activities allowed to take place soon.
He said this would likely include outdoor activities, such as going to the zoo.
Ismail added that the government would hold discussions on Monday about the work-from-home order for states that have gone back to the recovery MCO (RMCO) and whether people can be allowed to return to the office in full force.
On the daily enforcement against those who committed MCO-related offences, Ismail said 491 people were arrested by police yesterday, out of which 437 were issued compound fines and 54 remanded.
The majority of them were punished for not wearing masks, failing to record customers’ personal details when entering shops and not observing physical distancing.
The authorities also detained 116 undocumented migrants and confiscated one boat as well as one vehicle yesterday as part of the ongoing Ops Benteng campaign.
He added that 869 people returned to Malaysia yesterday from various countries, all of whom are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine.
