Kota Kinabalu: A new cluster was identified in Sandakan, namely the Pulau Berhala Cluster, which was detected during a community screening of some 208 individuals. Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic) said the cluster registered 24 cases thus far. The State recorded 250 Covid-19 cases on Sunday, with 42.8 per cent of the total cases (107 cases) detected in close contact screenings in 11 districts. He said the remaining cases were detected in new and existing clusters (60 cases), while 29 cases were detected in symptomatic screenings, 32 cases in community screenings and 22 cases in other screenings. No deaths were recorded while 193 patients have been discharged from the hospital.

“2,013 are still being treated at hospitals and low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC) Statewide. 63 are in the Intensive Care Unit where 27 are on respiratory support,” said Masidi in a statement, Sunday. Sabah’s current bed capacity is at 6,803 beds with a 29.59 per cent utilisation rate. Of these, 1,026 are hospital beds and 5,777 are PKRC beds.

To date, the State government has distributed 275,981 food baskets to target groups across Sabah. The State Disaster Management Committee has 239 vehicles on standby for Covid-19 logistics, where 44 vehicles will be used to transport Covid-19 patients and 35 vehicles will be used to distribute food baskets to target locations. The remaining 160 are ready to be mobilised for miscellaneous purposes when needed. Meanwhile, 65 roadblocks have been implemented in various locations involving the inspection of some 46,698 vehicles. “Of these, 62 vehicles have been ordered to turn back while 17 compounds have been issued for the violation of Covid-19 SOPs. The overall compliance rate is at 98.03 per cent,” he said. “The Marine Police Force has also carried out SOP enforcement involving 68 inspections in the East Coast and another 22 inspections in Kota Kinabalu and Labuan waters,” he said. Masidi added that districts which recorded the highest compliance rates include Kinabatangan (99 per cent), Sipitang (99 per cent), Kota Belud (99 per cent) and Kota Kinabalu (99 per cent).
