Kuala Lumpur: Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (pic) has volunteered to be the first to be tested with the Covid-19 vaccine before it is given to the rakyat.
The offer was made after Sarikei MP Wong Ling Biu proposed that politicians and leaders should be the first to be tested with the Covid-19 vaccine before it is made available to the public.
"I take up the challenge of Sarikei MP and offer myself to be the first to be tested with the vaccine.
"I am not afraid and want to be healthy.
"A war general must be the first in line," he said when debating the Health Ministry's allocation under Budget 2021 at the committee stage in Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Dec 9).
He also questioned why Malaysia had yet to sign agreements to source Covid-19 vaccines, as has has been done by Indonesia with China.
"I have heard that the vaccine is already available and that Indonesia has signed an agreement with China and other nations.
"Why has Malaysia not done so," Bung asked.
Earlier during debates, Wong had expressed his anger that he and his family were used as experiments when they previously tested positive for Covid-19.
"If the vaccine is made available, who else will be made into experiments?
"The rakyat out there have proposed that the vaccines are first tested on politicians and leaders to ensure their efficacy before they are given to the rakyat," Wong said.
Wong tested positive for Covid-19 on March 15 and had slipped into a 42-day coma before recovering and being discharged from Sibu Hospital on May 30.
Wong's son, national hammer thrower Jackie Wong, was also a Covid-19 patient at Sibu Hospital and was discharged on May 27, after spending 73 days under treatment and observation.
