Kota Kinabalu: A Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) leader has proposed that the party consider spreading its wings to Peninsular Malaysia in order to command greater influence over Malaysian politics.
Warisan Kota Kinabalu Branch Chief Samuel Wong (pic) said this would be a more effective way to fight for Sabah interests, especially under the leadership of party President and former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
“Shafie has a vision of returning to Sabahans what rightfully belongs to them. At the same time, he also has a vision for a new progressive Malaysia living in unity.
“It is appropriate for Warisan to offer itself as that alternative to the rakyat in the 15th general election.
“Such a hope will bring in a new dawn for a new Malaysia, a historical move for Malaysia via the Sabah way,” he said in a statement, Thursday.
Wong said only by expanding the party outside the State would Sabah have a greater say in resolving many current predicaments and pursuing the State agenda as well as the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
He noted that the instability in the peninsula would do Sabah no good, especially when there were too many racial and religious provocations.
He believes that the Sabah-based party could be what the people in Peninsular Malaysia need, adding that Warisan leaders could study and consider the suggestion to expand the party.
“Warisan is a multi-racial and multi-religious party whose struggle is for a united Malaysia as per the MA63.
“Warisan also wants a progressive Malaysia in which every citizen is proud to say he or she is a Malaysian, with equal opportunities given to all Malaysians based on merit.
“It is not a party for one single race, religion or culture. It is party of all Malaysians, by all Malaysians and for all Malaysians. Exactly what Semenanjung needs,” he said.
