Chan backs call to give aid to tourism players
Kota Kinabalu: Any spending purportedly for developing the tourism sector, right now, will be off-tangent if existing players could not survive the severe drop in business caused by the Covid-19 in the first place, said Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin (pic).

Expressing his support towards the call made by DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng to provide substantial financial assistance to tourism industry players, Chan urged the Tourism Ministry to convert up to RM94 million allocated to the Ministry as development budget into cash handouts for these players.

Chan who is also Sabah DAP Secretary said, right now, the aim should be to sustain existing players first and not let them exit or give up on the industry.

He pointed that in the Budget 2021 booklet, it was stated that Code 80001 (Private Public Partnership/Private Finance) has been allocated RM39 million, Code 01400 (Facilities/Infrastructure Maintenance) was allocated RM28 million, and Code 94000 (Marketing and Promotion) was allocated RM27 million.
