Kota Kinabalu: Sabah won 17 prizes in a national online competition organised by the Information Department.
Sabah Information Director Norzawiyah Bulka said the annual competition was a proactive step by the department to nurture the spirit of patriotism and to adapt to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The competition comprises eight events, namely Asean Quiz Competition, National Speech Competition, Narrative Competition, Merdeka Poetry Competition, Merdeka Short Story Competition, Smule Patriotic Star Competition, Klik @ Merdeka and Colouring Competition.
“The highest achievement of participants from Sabah is in the Asean Quiz Competition which was won by Arizkhan Amin Kadda, a student of a private institution of higher learning (IPTS) abroad.
“Another student of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Nurdayana Wong Fang Kim, was named recipient of the Jury Special Award for the Sayembara Sajak Merdeka.
“Besides that, Nur Amalina Izzati Abdul Hapid from Tawau won third place in the National Speech Competition.
“We are proud and congratulate all the winners and participants, and hope they will continue to achieve more success in future,” she said at the National Competition Prize Giving Ceremony at Wisma Dang Bandang, here.
Norzawiyah also expressed appreciation for the very encouraging response from Sabah participants.
“The number of participants from Sabah was 4,313, out of a total of 55,301 participants.
“Hopefully in the future, more Sabah participants will participate in the competition which can instil the spirit of national love among the people,” she said.
