MEMBAKUT: The Beaufort District Council and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) have been urged to ensure proper maintenance of the drainage system around Membakut town to reduce flooding.Ahmad Yaakub, who represented Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datuk Arifin Ariff, made the call after conducting a survey around the town area together with District Council and DID officials, on Thursday.
The survey found that the drainage system around the town is dirty and overgrown with grass, causing not only the Membakut town but also nearby residential areas to be flooded.
“We also delved into the problems of residents in the residential areas and found that most of the drains were not maintained and overgrown with grass.
