Empowering underprivileged women through skill training

Kota Kinabalu: Architect Tressie Yap Chui Kie Yap, who doubles up as a volunteer teacher, wanted to empower underprivileged women who depend on food aid for now. “What better way than to equip them with the necessary skills for their sustenance,” she said.

Under BotakHeadChallenge : Tressie YapKie, her initiative to get some underprivileged women to sew coverall personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical frontliners is a joint venture project with the Sabah Council of Social Services (MPMS).

The material was purchased by the Council, with a small sewing allowance for the seamstresses.

“I subsidise the seamstresses’ pay under the Botak4Sabah Fund,” she added.
