Five Sabah Covid deaths, Malaysia overtakes China in cumulative cases today
PUTRAJAYA: The health ministry has reported 1,295 Covid-19 cases and seven deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,052 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 72,733.

In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the 1,295 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 87,913. China has to date recorded a total of 86,770 infections.

Meanwhile, the seven deaths bring the toll to 429.

Selangor recorded the highest number of infections, with 481 cases today, followed by Sabah (268) and Kuala Lumpur (232).

Noor Hisham said 356 of the 481 cases in Selangor were from clusters and the increased close contact screenings being done on the ground.

Other states and federal territories which recorded new cases today were Johor (105), Penang (69), Negeri Sembilan (60), Perak (35), Melaka (14), Pahang (13), Kedah (nine), Putrajaya (four) and Labuan (three). Kelantan and Terengganu reported one case each.

Eight new clusters were reported today. There are currently 196 active clusters in the country.

A total of 57 infections came from prison clusters, namely the Jalan Harapan Prison (26), Tembok (22), Seberang Perai Prison (eight) and Bakti (one) clusters.

Noor Hisham said the seven deaths involved five people from Sabah, one from Kelantan and one from Selangor. Four were Malaysians and three were foreigners.

They were aged between 52 and 77. Five of them had a history of chronic illnesses.

There are currently 14,751 active cases, with 113 patients receiving intensive care, 53 requiring respiratory assistance.

Perlis and Sarawak did not record any new cases today.

Out of the 1,295 cases today, 10 were imported cases.

The health ministry has detected eight new Covid-19 clusters in the country over the last 24 hours.

In a press conference today, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are the Puncak Galaksi cluster in Selangor, the Bukit Punai cluster in Sabah, the Permai, Matahari and Laut construction site clusters in Kuala Lumpur, Cahaya Mahsuri cluster in Johor, Seri Tasik cluster in Perak and Inten cluster in Pahang.
