Kota Kinabalu: A man and a woman were charged with having 158.6gm of cannabis.
However, no plea was taken from Mohd Jamri Basir, 20, and Syafika Abdul Suaib, 19, after the charge was read to them before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz, on Friday.
The duo is accused of having the drug at 10.30pm on May 15 this year at the Angkasa Apartment, Jalan Tuaran Bypass, here.
The offence, under 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, carries life imprisonment and death sentence, and whipping of at least 15 strokes of the cane, on conviction.
The court set Dec 22 for mention the case and no bail was offered to the duo as the charge against them has no provision for bail.
Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit appeared for the prosecution while the duo was represented by Mohd Hafiz Lukman, who stood in for counsel P.J Perira.
Meanwhile, a man was jailed three years for having 12.52gm of syabu.
Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles handed the sentence to Siddik Abdullah.
Siddik was found having the drug at 12.55pm on June 26 this year at a house in Taman Seri Indah Sepanggar, Manggatal, here. After completing the jail sentence, Siddik was ordered referred to the Immigration Department.
