Eight illegal moneylenders arrested in Sandakan

Kota Kinabalu: The Sandakan Commercial Criminal Investigation Department (JSJK) arrested eight individuals, including a woman, suspected of being illegal moneylenders (Ah Long) on Dec 16.

Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mazli Mazlan said the group comprises local citizens aged between 20 and 40 who acted as debt collectors, manager and assistants.

He said at 11.30am on Dec 15, a 34-year-old victim was reportedly approached by four men to collect debts.

“The victim was believed to have borrowed RM800 in September but the suspects asked the victim to pay RM1,600.
