Covid-19: One Labuan death, 2,062 cases nationwide, 252 in Sabah
PUTRAJAYA: The health ministry has reported 2,062 Covid-19 cases and one death in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 911 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 79,304.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the 2,062 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 97,389.

Meanwhile, the only death of the day brings the toll to 439.

Selangor continued to record the highest number of cases today, with 1,014 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 504, Sabah with 252 and Johor with 167.

Negeri Sembilan reported 57 new cases while Penang had 23 new infections.

Perak had 17 cases, followed by Melaka (nine), Pahang (six), Kedah (five), Kelantan (four) and Labuan and Putrajaya – each with two.

A total of 120 cases today were related to prison and immigration depot clusters, namely the Tembok Gajah and Jalan Harapan prison clusters. There were only four imported cases today.

The health ministry has detected eight new Covid-19 clusters in the country over the last 24 hours.

In a statement today, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are known as the Pasar Baru and Bukit Naga clusters in Selangor; Residen construction site, Kasih construction site and Sinar View construction site clusters in Kuala Lumpur, Paginatan cluster in Sabah, Tampoi Jaya cluster in Johor and Rapat cluster in Perak.

The Pasar Baru cluster from Klang and Kuala Langat in Selangor was detected on Dec 15 after an individual tested positive during symptomatic individual screenings. A total of 2,001 individuals have been screened, with 309 positive cases.

The Bukit Naga cluster in Klang was detected on Dec 13 following targeted construction site screenings. A total of 190 individuals were screened, with 58 positive cases.

Noor Hisham said cases in the Residen construction site cluster in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur, were first detected starting on Dec 22 following targeted construction site screenings. A total of 640 people have been screened with 294 positive cases.

Both the Kasih and Sinar View construction site clusters were detected in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur.

The Kasih construction site cluster was detected on Dec 22 following targeted construction site screenings; 392 people have been screened with 43 positive cases.

The Sinar View construction site cluster was detected at a construction site; and 510 people were screened with 32 positive cases.

The Paginatan cluster in Sabah’s Ranau, Papar and Kota Belud districts was detected on Dec 15 after an individual tested positive during symptomatic individual screenings. Overall, 232 people have been screened with 47 positive cases.

The Tampoi Jaya cluster in Johor Bahru was detected on Dec 17. A total of 231 people have been screened with 32 positive cases.

Rapat cluster in Perak is active in the Kinta and Perak Tengah districts and was detected after an individual tested positive on Dec 16. A total of 146 people have been screened with seven positive cases.

The Residen construction site with 294 infections recorded the highest number of new cases today, followed by the Pasar Baru cluster (270) and Seruling cluster (221)

Noor Hisham said three clusters have ended: Summer, Kota Kecil and Tenaga. There are 206 clusters still active.
