Kota Kinabalu: Public needs and interest that are affected by Covid-19 pandemic in five State laws are now safeguarded following passing of a Bill cited as Temporary Measures for Reducing the Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Enactment 2020 at the State Assembly. Speaker Datuk Kadzim M Yahya said it was passed after receiving no objection from members that will take effect on publication date of this enactment for two years.
The enactment is to provide for temporary measures in reducing the impact of the Covid-19 virus including to modify relevant provisions in the Land Ordinance 930 (Cap.68), the Housing Development (Control and Licensing) Enactment 1978 (No.24 of 1978), the Islamic Family Law Enactment 2004 (No.8 of 2004), the Syariah Court Civil Procedure Enactment 2004 (No.10 of 2004) and the Native Courts Enactment 1992 (No.3 of 1992).
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun cum the Sabah’s official Covid-19 spokesperson, who tabled the Bill, said it was a commitment of the State Government to minimise the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic which has a direct impact on the State’s economy, social and industry.
