Kota Kinabalu: Fearing possible entry of the new Covid-19 strain detected in neighbouring Sabah, Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered all local government units and the military to further tighten border monitoring activities.

Saying the country could not afford to experience another wave of the virus, Duterte said it is vital for the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) and other agencies, including the public at large, to work in unison to prevent the entry of the Covid-19 strain.

Sulu Provincial Governor Abdusakur Tan had earlier called for assistance from IATF, following reports that a new Coronavirus strain has been detected in Sabah.

“I instructed my staff to consult the matter with IATF on how best to handle the emerging situation, “ he said.
