‘Be more supportive of special people’ call

Kota Kinabalu: Appointed Assemblyman Datuk Amisah Yassin said the community should be more sensitive and supportive of the special groups with physical and mental disabilities, including their caregivers.

“It is the right thing to give attention to them (caregivers) as it is not easy for them to manage people with problems such as Down’s syndrome, autism and dyslexia, among others.

Amisah, who is also Sabah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Srikandi Ranau Chief, earlier visited Bukit Harapan at the Jalan Tuaran Bypass, here.

She also assured that the Government would ensure the community that requires special attention would not to be neglected nor be seen as a burden.

During the visit, Amisah also donated food, necessities and a cheque to the residents of Bukit Harapan.

Bukit Harapan has 45 residents consisting of children with special needs and single mothers.

Founded by Datuk Anne John P. Arulnasalam Keyworth, it began operating on Jan 9, 1989 in Keningau and shifted to its current location in 2007.
