SANDAKAN: Some 31 people were arrested in New Year’s eve ops at several locations here – all for Syariah offences for close proximity during the CMCO (Conditional Movement Control Order) period when they should be exercising social distancing. Sandakan District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin, said the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS) Sandakan would investigate the cases.
Meanwhile, his party filed 25 road offences and seized 13 motorcycles in the same operation.
The joint operation was carried out by 14 officers and 70 members from the Sandakan IPD led by him involving various departments and JHEINS Sandakan led by its Religious Administrative Officer, Romzi Abdul Rahman.
“The Ops was for the new norm where we cannot hold any event during the CMCO and ensure public compliance,” he said.
