Spike in number of drug seizures
THE year 2020 saw a spike in the number of drug seizures worth millions of ringgit, reflecting success for the security enforcement agencies in eradicating drug-related activities in Sabah.

The year kicked off with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency foiling an attempt to smuggle 17kg of syabu worth about RM2.5 million to a neighbouring country at Batu Payung beach, near Tawau in February.

It was the agency’s first success against a drug-related case since its inception in 2005.
In March, 21.194kg of syabu worth about RM1,666,460 were seized by the Battalion 14 General Force Operation (GOF) after detaining two locals on a boat from Nunukan heading to Tawau.
