LABUAN: The Labuan Entertainment Owners’ Association lamented that despite several appeals to the relevant authorities, this sector remains closed.

Acting Chairman of the association, Surjeet Singh, said there are some 29 such outlets here and some have not been able to survive the prolonged closure and a few more may follow suit if things remained unchanged. He said the sector in the island had been incurring losses over RM6 million over the Covid-19 period since March.

Surjeet said this was why the association’s office has decided to meet the CEO of Labuan Corporation Dr Fary Akmal Osman, to seek help.

“In our dialogue we requested that the annual operating fee of RM4,800 and liquor licence fee of about RM2,000 payable to Labuan Corporation this year be waived, that the operating hours of the entertainment venues be flexible without subject to strict rules to help the industry’s recovery,” said Surjeet.
