PETALING JAYA: Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced a total lockdown at Kampung Timbang Dayang in Kota Belud in Sabah after 24 positive Covid-19 cases were reported in the locality.
In a statement today, he said this follows advice and risk analysis by the health ministry, which has conducted 207 screenings there as at Dec 31.
The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) will come into effect tomorrow until Jan 18.
Ismail also announced that the EMCO affecting the Jasin correctional centre and staff quarters in Melaka has been lifted according to schedule today.
“The health ministry has conducted 737 screenings and cumulatively recorded 281 positive Covid-19 cases.”
He said the ministry has confirmed a downward trend in the daily active cases at the centre, with no individuals still awaiting results.
The Jasin correctional centre and staff quarters was placed under a 14-day lockdown on Dec 21.
Meanwhile, police arrested 466 people yesterday over movement control order-related offences. Ismail said 463 of them were issued compounds, two were remanded and one was given bail.
Among the offences were flouting physical-distancing rules (110), participating in activities at entertainment centres (187), failure to wear face masks (90) and failure to provide materials for contact tracing or registration (62), and others (17).
A total of 2,452 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, among others.
Ismail also said police caught 24 illegal immigrants and seized six vehicles under Ops Benteng.
He added that 97,758 people had arrived through KLIA from July 24 to Jan 3 from various countries. A total of 540 people were sent to hospital for treatment, while 89,545 were allowed to return home.
Another 7,673 people are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine.
