Umno, Bersatu hold back decision

Kuala Lumpur: The Umno Supreme Council has deferred any decision on the party’s support for Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) to its annual general assembly at the end of this month.

Likewise, the press gathered outside the Bersatu headquarters at its supreme council meeting were also told by departing leaders that no decision would be announced and that an official statement would be released later.

The highest Umno decision-making body met Wednesday night amid reports of a widening rift between notable party leaders over Umno’s continued support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

This latest development follows most of the 191 party divisions calling for Umno to withdraw its cooperation with PPBM, and the sacking of Ketereh MP Annuar Musa (pic) as the Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general earlier.
