SANDAKAN: Continuous rain since the wee hours caused a landslide at the Muslim cemetery at Jalan Aman, Wednesday, resulting in a big tree falling on at least 10 graves. Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) Deputy President I, Faridah Giau, together with Sandakan Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains) officer, Romzi Abdul Rahman, were at the site after receiving information about the incident.

Faridah said the relevant parties under the District Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB) have also taken action where the debris of the falling tree which obstructed traffic had already been cleared by the District Fire and Rescue Department and Public Works Department staff.
“We also, through the PKOB, are ready to face possibilities brought by the rainy season and if there is flood, the temporary evacuation centre will be opened,” she said when met at the site, adding the PKOB operations room has been active throughout the Covid-19 pandemic period.
