New Kudat Port is not a priority now?
A view of the Kudat Port.
KUDAT: The previous Warisan-led state government planned to build a prominent port here, but with its defeat at the state elections last September, only time will tell whether the plan is viable or cancelled by the new Perikatan Nasional (PN) state government.

In 2019, Daily Express solicited views of some prominent business and industry leaders on the plan and the feedback showed most did not understand the rationale, considering huge funds and efforts were expended to develop the Sapanggar Bay Container Port into a hub for the Far East.

“I don’t want to pour cold water (on the plan),” said a leader of a trade body.
“The development of another major port will take years and hundreds of million ringgit to realise and the tenure of every state government is for a five-year term unless returned to power,” he said.
