Kota Kinabalu: Some 500 personnel from the Fifth Infantry Division of the Malaysian Army will be deployed during the latest Movement Control Order (MCO) 2.0 throughout Sabah, said its new Commander Major General Datuk Mohd Halim Khalid.He said they would assist the authorities, namely the police and other uniformed agencies, to regulate the movement of people in the effort to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.
“Before this, we have around 200 personnel but will add another 200 to 250 to carry out daily duties throughout the period,” he said after handing over tokens of appreciation to personnel from the 20th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD), here.
Mohd Halim said they have enough manpower and are ready to assist the authorities in enforcing the MCO 2.0, effective from January 13 to 26.
“Let us all work together to prevent the virus from spreading,” he said, advising the people to strictly abide by the set standard operating procedures (SOPs).
According to Mohd Halim, several troops were also deployed to Pitas, Kota Marudu and Kudat to help the flood victims.
He said they would intensify the operation, dubbed “Op Murni”, to help those affected by the floods in the districts.
