PETALING JAYA: Flood victims will be given a six-month loan moratorium from banks, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz (pic) announced Thursday.
He said he had been informed that several banks have already agreed to do so, adding that he welcomed such efforts from the private sector to ease the people’s burdens in this time.
“The monsoon season is getting worse in several states, including Selangor, Pahang, Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak, Sabah and Sarawak. The Government will ensure that aid will be distributed to those affected by the floods.
“We all need to work together and play our respective roles to ensure that the economy can recover,” he said in the 36th Laksana report on the implementation of the Government’s Prihatin, Penjana and Kita Prihatin programmes.
He also said the Finance Ministry was studying and discussing how it can make improvements to initiatives in Budget 2021, taking into account the Movement Control Order in certain states.
He maintained that the ministry was ready to make improvements to the budget’s initiatives to ensure the wellbeing of the people and to sustain businesses.
