LAHAD DATU: A 25-year-old foreigner was detained after the Marine Police Force (MPF) found 120 packs of various cigarette brands in his possession, Thursday.

Lahad Datu MPF Commanding Officer, Supt Gan Ping Sin, in a statement on Friday, said the suspect was detained while riding a motorcycle at Kampung Sinakut beach.

A MPF team on patrol spotted the suspect who was acting in a suspicious manner and stopped him.

“Upon inspection, the team found 120 packs of cigarettes believed to be unpaid tax estimated worth RM1,742.40.

“The team also seized the motorcycle which is estimated to worth RM5,000,” he said, adding that the case will be investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of Customs Act 1967.
