Floods worsen in Sabah, more bad weather predicted

Kota Kinabalu: The number of flood evacuees in Sabah continues to rise, while the situation in Pahang and Sarawak is improving with the number of individuals housed at relief centres on the decline.
As at 8am today, a total of 3,809 evacuees are still being housed at relief centres in the three states.

In Sabah, the state disaster management committee said the number of evacuees increased to 673 from 194 families compared with 407 from 106 families last night. They are being housed at 15 relief centres statewide.
Nine districts have been hit by floods, with Kota Belud recording the highest number of evacuees at 210, Tuaran (112), Kota Kinabalu (101), Paitan (73), Beaufort (78), Penampang (76) and Putatan (23).
The committee said 186 villages have been affected and more people are expected to be evacuated as bad weather has been predicted for several areas in the state.
In Sarawak, 569 evacuees are still seeking shelter at five relief centres in Serian.

A total of 341 are at SK Tanah Puteh, followed by 96 at the Kampung Rimba Padi hall, 74 at the Serian community hall, 32 at the Kampung Slabi Entukuh hall and 26 at the Balek Buk Janjun hall.

After almost two weeks at the danger level, the water level at Sungai Pahang in Serambi, Pekan, dropped to the warning level this morning. Only Sungai Jelai in Lipis has remained at the danger level.
