‘Don’t touch disconnected electrical wires’ advice
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) advised the public to prioritise safety measures and comply with electricity safety guidelines during floods.

Its Senior General Manager (Asset Management) Norhizami Abu Hasan said the rainy weather and strong winds caused power lines and poles to be exposed to dangers of fallen trees and broken branches.

“The public are advised not to approach, touch or move the disconnected electrical wires on the ground or in the water because electrical current may still run in them,” he said in a statement, Monday.

“If their residential areas are flooded, the public need to move immediately and switch off all the main switches in their homes and store their electrical appliances in high places to prevent them from being inundated with water.”

Meanwhile, Norhizami said preparations had been made in each zone and district by deploying technical teams who are on standby for 24 hours to repair any damage, including the placement of mobile power set in strategic locations.

“SESB will also shut down the power supply temporarily in flooded locations to avoid short circuits,” he said.

They would also inspect their installations in areas that experienced power disruption.

“Power supply will only be restored when the floods had receded to a safe level and our installations are in good and safe condition.”
