SEMPORNA: Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA Semporna Maritime Zone) foiled an attempt to smuggle 172 cigarette cartons near Pulau Bum Bum.
Semporna Maritime Zone Director, Commander Norrimi Hassan said following tip-offs, a patrol boat was arranged to locate and raid the suspect.

“Our team then detected the movement of a boat in a suspicious manner around 1.30am near Pulau Bum Bum waters.
“However, upon realising the presence of the MMEA patrol boat, the suspect sped off and decided to jump into the sea at about 0.9 nautical miles northeast of Pulau Bum Bum, before escaping through the nearby mangrove forest,” he said in a statement.
