Man held for lodging false supermarket robbery report

PAPAR: A local in his 30s was detained by police here for lodging a false report involving a robbery at a supermarket, here, Saturday.

District Police Chief DSP Batholomew Ak Umpit said a police report was lodged by the man stating that he was assaulted by two men at about 8.30pm at Bataras Supermarket.

According to the report, the two assailants who were wearing helmets fled with the “victims” beg, containing unspecified amount of cash on a motorcycle.

“Police carried out an investigation based on the report and went through a closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording that showed nothing.
