Kota Kinabalu: The posting of a video of eight Tenom villagers slapped with a RM1,000 fine each for breaking the Movement Control Order (MCO) is provocation towards police who have been lenient enough in enforcing the restrictions, said Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali.
Since the MCO and introduction of its standard operating procedures (SOP), he said police have turned a blind eye to violations on occasions as an understanding gesture towards the public's plight, however, such forgiving by authorities has been abused.
Commenting on the Jan 27 video which went viral on social media, Hazani said action had to be taken as the eight individuals were over the half-passenger capacity limit in a "kereta sapu" or illegal public transport, which violated the MCO SOP and public vehicle regulations.
