Kota Kinabalu: A 47-year-old man claimed trial at the Sessions Court on Monday to a charge of abusing his 14-year-old daughter.

The man, who appeared before Judge Azreena Aziz, was accused of committing the crime to the girl, which caused injury to her body between 12 noon and 5pm on July 11, 2020 in an apartment in Penampang.

The charge under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 or a jail term of up to 20 years or both on conviction.

Azreena set Feb 23 for case management and allowed the accused bail at RM10,000 with RM3,000 deposited in two sureties.

The accused was also ordered not to tamper with any of the prosecution’s witnesses including the alleged victim and also ordered to report himself to the nearest police station once a month.
