PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 2,764 Covid-19 cases and 13 deaths in the past 24 hours, the first time since Jan 13 that the number of cases has fallen below 3,000.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 3,887 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 196,556.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 248,316.
There are 50,841 active cases with 289 patients being treated in intensive care and 127 requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the 13 deaths bring the number of fatalities to 909.
The new cases today involved 2,758 local infections and six imported cases.
Selangor was again the state with the highest number of cases (862), of which 668 cases were from clusters and close contact screenings.
The number of infections in other states and federal territories are Johor (521), Kuala Lumpur (422), Melaka (203), Sabah (180), Penang (119), Sarawak (111), Negeri Sembilan (99), Kelantan (62), Kedah (59), Perak (40), Terengganu (34), Pahang (32), Labuan (10) and Putrajaya (10).
There were 51 cases from prisons and detention centres, most of which came from the Tembok Sungai Udang (27), Tembok Renggam (nine), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (eight), Jalan Harapan Prison (four) and Tembok Bukit Besi (three) clusters.
The 13 dead today were all Malaysians. Six of the deaths were in Selangor, followed by Sabah, Sarawak and Johor with two each, and also one from Kuala Lumpur. All but one had a history of medical conditions.
There were 12 new Covid-19 clusters detected in the past 24 hours, 11 of which involve workplaces, while one was a community cluster.
At a press conference, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham said four of the clusters were detected in Johor, three in Selangor, two in Kuala Lumpur, and one each in Sabah, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.
He said that the Dialisis Masjid Tanah cluster in Melaka was the only community cluster detected and that it involved a group of high-risk individuals.
The workplace clusters in Selangor are Persiaran Puteri, a construction site, Mahkota Industri, involving a company at the Mahkota Industrial Area in Kuala Langat, and Kejuruteraan Subang Baru, a factory in Shah Alam.
Meanwhile, the workplace clusters in Johor are Besi Cyber, Senai City Lapan, Jalan Parit Mesjid and Jalan Cyber 14. All four clusters involve factories.
The two workplace clusters in Kuala Lumpur are the Jalan Budiman and Jalan Pantai construction sites.
In Sabah, the Hulu Jerocco cluster involves a plantation, while in Negeri Sembilan, the Lengkok Emas cluster involves a factory.
