Kota Kinabalu: The State Government expressed its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Datuk Irene Benggon Charuruks
(pic) who died earlier Monday. She was 70.
“She had contributed a lot to the development of the tourism industry in Sabah. She had excelled in the service and was internationally recognised for what she had done,” said State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
Irene, who was former Sabah Tourism Board General Manager, breathed her last around 4.30pm at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
She was admitted to the hospital believe due to a stroke. Charuruks helmed the Board from 1991 to 2016, when Gordon Yapp, her deputy at the time, took over.
