Kota Kinabalu: A man was jailed five years and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for taking syabu repeatedly.
Herman Kudang pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim to the charge against him.
He was found taking the drug on Feb 10 this year after testing positive for drug at the police station here and he has several convictions for taking the drug.
The offence is under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act.
After serving the jail sentence, Herman was ordered placed under police supervision for two years.
The court ordered Herman to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.
Meanwhile, three illegal immigrants were sentenced to four months’ jail each for entering the State illegally.
Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz handed the sentence to Asrin Abi, Hafizan Jasni and Asraf Jalaini, who admitted separately to the charge against them.
They were arrested on Feb 1 this year at the city area after failing to produce their identification documents to the police.
During mitigation, they asked for leniency and to be deported to their hometown as soon as possible.
After completing their jail sentence, the foreigners were ordered referred to the Immigration Department for deportation.
