13 Covid-19 deaths, 2,936 new cases nationwide, 101 in Sabah

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 2,936 Covid-19 cases and 13 deaths in the past 24 hours, FMT reported.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 4,889 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 239,971.

He said in a statement that the total number of infections now stands at 277,811.

There are 36,797 active cases with 220 patients being treated in intensive care and 104 requiring respiratory assistance.

The 13 deaths bring the number of fatalities to 1,043.

The new cases today involved 2,919 local infections and 17 imported cases. Local cases comprised 1,572 Malaysians and 1,347 foreigners.

Highest number in Selangor

Selangor once again recorded the highest number of new infections with 978 cases, of which 722 were detected at clusters and screening of close contacts.

This was followed by Johor with 730, Kuala Lumpur (227), Sarawak (199), Negeri Sembilan (191), Penang (188), Perak (155), Sabah (101), Kelantan (38), Terengganu (37), Kedah (36), Melaka (26), Pahang (26), Putrajaya (3) and Labuan (1). No new cases were recorded in Perlis.

About 112 of the cases were linked to prison, lock-up and detention centre clusters, of which 64 were from the Tembok Tapah cluster.

This was followed by the Tembok Bukit Besi cluster (17), Tembok Bendera cluster (14), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa cluster (6), Seberang Perai prison cluster (6), Tembok Taiping cluster (2) and one each from the Telok Mas, DTI Sepang 2 and Jalan Sungai Jelok prison clusters.

All 13 who died were Malaysians – including three women – aged between 53 and 84. A majority of them suffered from chronic illness.
