Six new Covid-19 clusters, all involving workplaces

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has detected six new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

In a statement, he said all of them were workplace clusters, with five being detected in Johor and one in Penang, FMT reported.

Clusters that reported the most infections today were Jalan Changkat Jong (1,046), Industri Selesa (171) and Tanjung Suria (97).

- Jalan Kota Kulai — a workplace cluster in Kulai district. Positive cases were reported on Feb 21 after a mass targeted testing exercise was conducted on workers at a factory on Jalan Kota Kulai. Up to Feb 21, a total of 89 workers had been screened, with 31 found positive.

- Jalan Cemerlang Besi — a workplace cluster in Johor Bahru district. Positive cases were reported on Feb 21 after a mass targeted testing exercise was conducted on workers at a factory on Jalan Cemerlang, Taman Perindustrian Cemerlang, Ulu Tiram. Up to Feb 21, a total of 83 workers had been screened, with 31 found positive.

- Jalan Kelapa Mawar — a workplace cluster in Batu Pahat district. Positive cases were reported on Feb 21 after a mass targeted testing exercise was conducted on workers at a factory on Jalan Kluang. The name of the cluster refers to the locality of the workers’ hostel on Jalan Kelapa Mawar, Taman Soga. Up to Feb 21, a total of 91 workers had been screened, with 16 found positive.

- Jalan Pandan Ria — a workplace cluster in Johor Bahru district. Positive cases were reported on Feb 21 after a mass targeted testing exercise was conducted on workers from a cleaning company on Jalan Kangkar. The name of the cluster refers to the locality of the workers’ hostel on Jalan Pandan Ria, Pandan. Up to Feb 21, a total of 43 workers had been screened, with 13 found positive.

- Jalan Persiaran Cemerlang — a workplace cluster in Johor Bahru district. Positive cases were reported on Feb 21 after a mass targeted testing exercise was conducted on workers at a factory on Jalan Persiaran Cemerlang, Taman Perindustrian Cemerlang. Up to Feb 21, a total of 131 workers had been screened, with 12 found positive.

Penang:

- Perusahaan Baru — a workplace cluster in Seberang Perai Tengah district. Positive cases were reported on Feb 20 after a mass targeted testing exercise was conducted on workers at a factory on Lorong Perusahaan Baru, Kawasan Perusahaan Perai 3. Up to Feb 21, a total of 213 workers had been screened, with 24 found positive.

Clusters closed:

Six clusters officially ended today —the Mikro, Tasik Utama, Titian, Tapak Bina Jalan Wangsa, Kota Road, and Tanjung Lumpur clusters.

There are now 510 active clusters out of the 1,074 reported.
