KOTA KINABALU: Though students sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2020 examination had very little face-to-face lessons and were forced to switch to online learning, generally, most are prepared to face the public examination which begins Monday.
According to Elvereo Muis, 17, it was a challenge going through online learning in preparing for the examination but he was determined not to be left behind in his studies.
“The difficulty was staying focus and maintaining the self-discipline needed to study remotely,” said Elvereo, adding that he was all set for the Bahasa Melayu papers Monday.
Another student El Deaniel Hakim, also 17, who shared Elvereo’s views said despite being forced to switch to online classes, this did not dampen his spirit to prepare and do well in the examination.
"Alhamdulillah, even without the face-to-face classes or physical interactions, I managed to do my own revision for each subject.
"Now that the examination has started I must calm my nerves and pray that I will be able to complete and answer all papers with a clear head," he said.
Meanwhile, a candidate’s father, Pangiran Indra Pangiran Tinggal, hoped everything would go well for all candidates.
"As a parent I hope and pray that my child and all candidates will do well despite the challenges because their efforts in preparing for the examination had been different from those in the previous years, due to the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Sabah State Education director Datuk Dr Mistirine Radin in a statement said 37,170 candidates are sitting for the SPM and Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) examinations which begin Monday.
Of the number, 36,432 are SPM candidates while 738 are SVM candidates and 5,393 staff have been tasked to oversee students during the examinations, she added.
