KUNAK: Four Telekom Malaysia (TM) maintenance contractors including a driver were lucky to escape with their lives when the vehicle they were in collided with a lorry laden with oil palm  bunches at the Simpang Empat junction here, Sunday.

District Police Chief Supt Baharin Md Tahir said the TM workers were on their way to carry out maintenance work in their pick-up truck when they were hit by the bigger vehicle.

“It was understood that the lorry driver was on his way from Ladang Bongalio to an oil palm factory in Madai.

“However, the lorry was believed to have a brake problem and the driver failed to control the vehicle before crashing into the pick-up,” he said, adding that the oil palm bunches scattered on the road after impact.
