Courier runner charged with raping minor

Kota Kinabalu: A 21-year-old runner of a courier company was charged with raping an underaged girl.Mohammad Afiz Furqan was brought before Sessions Court Judge Ummu Khaltom Abdul Samad to face the charge against him.

However, no plea was taken from Mohammad pending the DNA and chemist’s reports pertaining to the case.
Mohammad is accused of raping the 15-year-old girl between 7pm and 9pm on June 2020 at a playground in Kalansanan, Inanam, here.
The offence, under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.
The court set April 5 for mention the case and released Mohammad on a bail of RM10,000 with two local sureties.

The court also imposed additional conditions such as requiring Mohammad to report to the Investigating Officer Inspector Vikineswaran Nair Pavithran once a week and warned not to tamper with any of the prosecution witnesses.
On such event where the court received an official report from the prosecution side, Mohammad’s bail would be revoked immediately.

Counsel Ari Nadzrah, who defended Mohammad, said it was believed that the alleged victim was pregnant and had given birth to a baby girl.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Shafiqah Suleiman appeared for the prosecution.
