PETALING JAYA: Five people have been trapped in a van that was buried under a pile of building material when part of a highway bridge collapsed along the MRR2 this evening.
Early reports from the Kuala Lumpur Fire Department said that rescuers had arrived at the scene shortly after receiving an emergency call at 5.58pm and were working on trying to extricate the victims.

The rescue mission involved 23 firefighters from fire stations at Sungai Besi, Jalan Hang Tuah, Bandar Tun Razak and Cheras, FMT reported.
Pictures of the collapsed highway, currently under construction, circulated social media this evening along with complaints from drivers about heavy congestion along the MRR2 from Pandan Indah heading towards Ampang.
Meanwhile, highway concessionaire Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) said the accident occurred when an “overloaded trailer” crashed into a scaffolding at the site.
“The trailer is not involved or linked to the construction of the SUKE highway in any way,” it said in a statement.

SUKE it said, was extending all possible assistance to the relevant authorities.
