PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 2,063 Covid-19 cases and five deaths in the past 24 hours.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 2,922 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 283,629.
In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 307,943.
There are 23,161 active cases, with 193 patients being treated in intensive care and 99 requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the five deaths take the number of fatalities to 1,153,
FMT reported.
The new cases today comprised of 2,054 local infections and nine imported cases. Of the local cases, 1,419 were Malaysians and 635 foreigners.
Selangor recorded the highest number of infections with 630 cases.
It was followed by Penang (337), Sarawak (361), Johor (255), Kuala Lumpur (120), Perak (101), Negeri Sembilan (91), Sabah (78), Kelantan (44), Pahang (13), Kedah (12), Terengganu (10), Putrajaya (seven), Melaka (three) and Perlis (one). Labuan did not report any cases today.
There were 99 cases from prison clusters today, mostly involving the Tembok Tapah (57) and Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (19) clusters.
The five deceased were Malaysians between the ages of 70 and 79, and all of them were suffering from existing medical conditions.
