2,154 cases and 6 deaths

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 2,154 Covid-19 cases and six deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said there were 3,275 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 286,904.

In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 310,097.

There are 22,034 active cases, with 184 patients being treated in intensive care and 87 needing respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the six deaths take the number of fatalities to 1,159.

The new cases today comprised 2,149 local infections and five imported cases. Of the local cases, 1,339 were Malaysians and 810 foreigners. Selangor recorded the highest number of infections with 794 cases.

It was followed by Johor (463), Sarawak (250), Penang (119), Perak (109), Kuala Lumpur (108), Sabah (97), Negeri Sembilan (77), Kelantan (57), Pahang (38), Terengganu (16), Melaka (10), Kedah (nine), Putrajaya (four), Labuan (two) and one in Perlis.

All six who died were Malaysians aged between 52 and 87. Five of them had existing medical conditions.
