Kota Kinabalu: Sabah MIC has appealed to the government to help some 200 Indian families in Putatan who are facing hardships due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sabah MIC Chairman Peer Muhamad Kadir said some of them are living in unsafe houses.
“Sabah MIC appealed for houses allocated under the Hardcore Poor Housing Programme (PPRT) for some of these families as well as allocation under the ‘Sentuhan Kasih’ programme to repair the houses,” he said after a courtesy call to Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Shahelmey Yahya.
During the meeting, Sabah MIC also highlighted the plight of disabled Indians in Sabah.
“The economic effect of the pandemic affects them severely. Sabah MIC seeks for financial assistance to help ease their burden and 12 units of wheelchairs for their use.”
Peer also raised some issues relevant to the Indian Muslim community in Sabah during the meeting.
Among them was the state of Indian Muslim madrasahs in Sabah. Sabah MIC is seeking for allocation to repair the madrasahs as well as the furniture and equipment.
“The Indian Muslim community in Putatan and Petagas are also planning to build a mosque in Petagas and seek for assistance from the Minister for allocation to build the mosque,” he said.
Also present were Sabah MIC secretary Chandra Segar, assistant secretary R.Balachandran and treasurer Neelkrish Perumal.
