SANDAKAN: The General Operations Force (GOF) 15th Battalion seized a total of 4,560 packs believed to be contraband cigarettes and 499 cartons of liquor estimated to be worth RM693,108 in a raid on Saturday.

GOF 15 commanding officer Supt Toipi Lamat said the 8.10pm raid was conducted by the Tiger Platoon, in Kg Singgah Mata, Tongod . He said a further investigation found that the location was also used as a transit point for contraband goods believed to be brought in from Kota Kinabalu before being sent and marketed in Beluran and here.

"Also seized was a cargo truck where boxes of cigarettes believed to be smuggled were found," he said, adding that further investigations will be conducted under the Customs Act 1967.
