Covid vaccine: Ministry helping senior citizens
Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Ministry has begun helping the people, especially senior citizens, to register for Covid-19 vaccination.

Its Minister Shahelmy Yahya (pic) said the agencies currently involved in the registration aid were the Public Welfare Services Department (JPKA); Women Affairs Department (JHEWA); and Sabah Community Services Council (MPMS).

“Our JPKA has started to assist the registration for senior citizens at old folks’ homes.

“Two more of our agencies - JHEWA and MPMS - are also helping to assist their respective target groups to register for the vaccination with the MySejahtera application,” he told NST when contacted.

“The Ministry of Community Development and People’s Wellbeing is ever ready and willing to assist with our database.

“At the moment, the registration for the vaccination programme in the State is being handled by the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), which is chaired by the State Secretary,” added Shahelmy.

He said the CITF has coordinated meetings at the district level, which includes participation from district offices and local community leaders.

One of their main tasks, Shahelmy noted was to assist the registration of the elderly, especially those who are not familiar with online registration.

On Sunday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions), Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof announced some 10,000 members and volunteers from the Civil Defence Force (APM) would be mobilised to help in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

The group would be deployed to rural areas nationwide to help communities register for the vaccination, either via the MySejahtera application or manually.

On Sunday, Sabah APM Director Colonel Sharudin Md. Zain said they had no problem mobilising their 200 members, who are involved in the existing Agen Basmi Covid-19 (ABC-19) duty to carry out vaccination registration in remote areas.

Sharudin also said the force was ready to increase its manpower to 400 personnel if needed to assist in ensuring people in the rural areas get vaccinated.
