TAWAU: Tawau MP Datuk Christina Liew contributed 50 prayer mats to the Tawau Prison for the use of its surau during her visit to the Tawau Parliamentary Constituency this week.

On hand to receive the contribution was the Deputy Director Shamsul Zuraime Mad Shah at the premises of the prison.

Liew, who was accompanied by the Tawau Parliamentary Chief Liaison Officer, Fung Thin Yein, also presented prayer mats to 11 other mosques and suraus, totalling 600 in all.

The recipients included Masjid Cahaya Raudah at PPR Taman Sri Apas, Batu 8, Surau Anuar Tinagad Batu 7, Masjid Kurnia Batu 4, Masjid Al Taqwa Jalan Pantai, Tawau Lama, Masjid Nurul Imam Batu 2 Apas, SMK Kinabutan, Masjid Al Munawarah, Masjid Habib Abdul Rahman and Surau Al Ikhlas at Kg Jawa Lanut.

Liew’s latest contribution brings to a total of 4,400 prayer mats donated by her so far to 85 mosques and suraus in the Tawau parliamentary constituency, taking into account the 1,200 prayer mats delivered to 22 mosques and suraus in February this year and the 2,600 mats given out to 51 mosques and suraus last year.
