PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak
(pic) who has come under fire for failing to “check-in” with the MySejahtera app before going into a chicken rice shop has admitted that he was at fault and asked authorities to fine him for his mistake.
In a video that has gone viral, the former prime minister can be seen being ushered to his seat immediately after he arrived at a popular chicken rice shop in Kuala Lumpur.
While his officers had “checked-in”, Najib said he did not, although it was unintentional.
“Never mind. I told the authorities to issue me a fine for my mistake and I will pay the fine voluntarily,” he said in a Facebook post, adding he would do so within seven days to get the “early-bird discount” rate of RM750.
“For me, there is no such thing as double standards.”
The Pekan MP said he did not want any issue raised about “double standards” in his case, although he could not say the same for other “parties or ministers”.
Najib’s post comes a day after police said they had opened an investigation paper into allegations that several ministers had flouted Covid-19 SOPs by crossing state lines for a wedding reception.
Among those named in the police report were finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz, science, innovation and technology minister Khairy Jamaluddin and federal territories minister Annuar Musa.
A few days ago, two lawyers and an MP also asked authorities to conduct an independent probe into housing and local government minister Zuraida Kamaruddin’s alleged movement control order (MCO) violation involving a cycling event.
The National Landscape Department said the event was not a “fun ride” as claimed on social media and that Covid-19 rules were adhered to at all times.
