IPOH: Perak DAP vice-chairman Dr Abdul Aziz Bar lodged a police report today over a poster accusing him and the party of being behind the High Court’s recent decision to allow non-Muslims in the country to use the word “Allah.”
The Tebing Tinggi assemblyman lodged the report at the Ipoh district Police Station here at about 12noon.
Abdul Aziz said that he was alerted to the matter by his media officer when he was at his home at about 10pm yesterday.
He said the report was lodged to ensure that police would carry out an investigation into the poster, which also implicated two other DAP members, namely Syahredzan Johan and Dr Azmi Sharom.
“I expect this issue will be played over and over again since this has gone viral on social media,” he told reporters after lodging the police report today.
The poster, which has gone viral, also mentions the decision made by the Court of Appeal’s Justice, Datuk Nor Bee Ariffin, who used an affidavit submitted by Aziz, Syahredzan and Azmi.
Aziz stressed that the DAP was not involved in this case, as he submitted the affidavit about five years ago, as a constitutional expert.
“This is clearly a political game to say that DAP is anti-Malay and an enemy to Islam,” he said, adding that the party is defending the Malays and Islam.
On March 10, the High Court ruled that non-Muslims can use the word Allah and three other words for teaching purposes. The other words are Kaabah, solat, and baitullah.
The ruling was made by Nor Bee, sitting as a High Court judge, after 13 years of a legal battle between the government and Jill Ireland, a Christian woman from Sarawak.
