LABUAN: A vocational college student who scored excellent results in the final examination and secured a place in Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) to study mechanical engineering has been rewarded RM1,000 by the Labuan Hindu Sangam for being a role model Indian student.
Head of Sangam, Datuk Ramasamy, who handed over a cheque to Prasant Visyanathan, witnessed by his father, said:
“It is particularly difficult for Indian students to get a place in a public institution of high learning due to the limited quota.
“We are therefore certainly proud of his achievement and hope it would stand out as an inspiration to other local Indian students.
“Prasant is the oldest of four siblings and his father is a mechanic in the oil and gas sector. The amount given may be small but significant for the family.”
Ramasamy added that the Hindu Sangan would continue to extend aid within its capability to deserved cases.
