Kota Kinabalu: Three men were jailed and ordered to be caned for taking drugs repeatedly.
Desmond Timothy Jr Lim and Mohammad Isa Abdullah pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz. Each of them were jailed five years and ordered one stroke of the cane.
Desmond and Mohammad were found taking the drug on Jan 27 this year and Aug 1 in 2020 after their urines tested positive for drugs at the police station here, respectively.
They have several convictions records for taking drugs.
Meanwhile, Zunaidi Abdul Samat who admitted before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim, was sentenced to six years’ jail and a stroke of the cane.
He was found taking drugs on Aug 24, 2020 after his urine tested positive for drugs at Tuaran police station. He has several convictions for taking drugs.
The trio had committed the offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39C (2) of the same Act which provides for a jail term of between seven and 13 years, and whipping at least three strokes of the cane, on conviction.
All of them were ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrest.
After completing his jail sentence, they were ordered to be placed under police supervision for two years.
